Genuine Good Cause - NOBODY Receives A Penny For Their Time

Veterans In Crisis Line Saves Lives, Veterans' Centres Improve Lives & Build Futures

We are a Good Cause with a difference. We are almost unique in the sector because not only do we work for free, not one of the volunteer veterans has EVER made a claim to the organisation to be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses and we have also totally self-funded any training and ongoing professional development that we have decided to partake in.

Having been around the charitable sector for some years now, we know we are not the usual suited and booted executives that are paid 6 or even 7 figures per year to run charities, nor are we in any way similar to the people you see in the town centres signing people to Direct Debits and are paid ludicrously high commissions.

Did you know that they can make upto £60 per signup? Or that the 'charity' doesn't get any money from the first 2 YEARS of payments. You would think, naturally that it would be a different story if you gave directly to the charity via their website, that it would all get where it's intended for... but that's also not the case!

We are doing what we do because of the unbreakable bond we have with other HM Armed Forces Veterans, even those we have never met. Our phone line has saved lives. this we know. Even a PTSD Project Hoodie started a conversation that ended up with a veteran sat in silence in a car for 4 or 5 hours with the Founder. The story is best told by the veteran who now volunteers but had planned every last detail of his suicide.

"Just being able to speak to a fellow veteran made it so much easier for me to open up. I had suffered in silence for years, relationships and home life were suffering and I didn't even see it. Calling the Veterans In Crisis Line saved me from going down the slippery slope to an even darker place... a place I have seen former comrades go, some never to return. There but for the grace of God and the ViCL".A.J. (Rifleman, Retired)

About Us

Tanya Curtis

Founder of the Veteran Centre Initiative

We are all HM Armed Forces Veterans at the Project and we are doing this for those of our Brothers & Sisters In Arms who were injured in the theatre of war.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a killer and is a brain trauma injury. It can also creep up when you least expect. Volunteer Veterans waiting to answer calls is vital. It's when lives are saved, at the point when they are undecided on what to do.

Traditionally the M.O.D. have not accepted mental health as something they are responsible for until a landmark case was won in the High Court by the wife of a veteran who committed suicide due to the pain he was suffering as a result of PTSD.

This opened the entire subject up and changed how the Armed Forces would treat those with Combat Stress, Battle Fatigue, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or any of the other terms used commonly to describe what has always been a problem but was never accepted or discussed.

We were trained to never leave a man behind, but it's not the training that makes us do this, it's the brotherhood for those we have never met before and may never meet at all, but who have walked a mile in our boots, as we have in theirs.

It's an unbreakable bond and we will do this for as long as we're needed. There seems to be an increase not decrease and that could be to do with the awareness being raised.

We have a model for the future that we believe is the future of the charitable sector.

Location

We are located in Brandon, Durham in the North East of England but we are building a network all over the UK.

Supporting veterans of HM Armed Forces suffering with the effects of PTSD and the related conditions. Injuries of the mind are now accepted as being the biggest problem facing former service personnel with suicide being at an all time high we need to fight it with all we can. And who better to assist them fellow veterans?
